my new crack read
September 17th, 2009 by Christine
JS and I have been house shopping for almost 3 months. We’ve only put in an offer for 1 house which was a foreclosure, and as foreclosure-luck would have it, we were out-bidded and too late getting in our offer. Another house we seriously considered is a possible short sale, and the banks are taking up to 6 months to respond to any offers. There was a home we liked at the very beginning of our 3-month search that we decided would make us house-poor beyond our comfort level.
So the latest promising property is inside the loop but we are weary of the adjacent industrial structures. While searching online tonight for any information out there about the surrounding area, JS found a Houston real estate blog called Swamp Lot. Ever since I went to the site, I have not been able to stop reading about all these different Houston neighborhoods. Think of how the general public inhales Hollywood gossip on E! network or from online tabloids. That intensity of interest is what I have for this blog. I’ve been surfing it for over an hour now and learned the following interesting things:
- West Oaks Mall is declaring bankruptcy. Apparently the investor who was involved in the acquisition of West Oaks was recently sentenced to prison for some sort of financial fraud.
- Bedford, the restaurant at which PW used to work, is being bought out by the same investors that own Little Bigs in Montrose. (I heard they also own Reef.) It is being turned into a modern Italian restaurant. (I’m sure PW is glad Bedford is going down the crapper.)
Those are just 2 of the things I’ve read. So interesting that I had to pause to post but now I’m going back to whoring myself with my equivalence of Hollywood gossip: the goings-on of Houston real estate. (How geeky is that?)
inner loop? what happened to bw8 & i-10? slim pickings? or just overpriced ones?
i knew you’d like that site.
but that sucks about bedford. but im sure pw is happy. so is west oaks just going to disappear ?
don’t settle! if you’re concerned about adjacent industrial stuff, be wary of noise (speaking from experience of noisy Richmond traffic). congrats and selling the house so quick. we’re prob going to take ours off the market in a couple if nothing happens.
nice website (smamplot). west oaks is going? sad and happy at the same time. that place is an institution to my childhood, yet now, i hate to even go there. good luck in finding a house!
choirrific: BW8 & the 10 = too expensive for everything we like. Only hope is the new development by In-Town but they are asking for $20K down to build a house dirt up, meaning you don’t even get to see the product and you have to put that much $ down?! Forget it. Too risky.
